SAN FRANCISCO, November 19, 2025 — Leap, the leading platform for building and scaling virtual power plants (VPPs), today announced an update to its Leap Connect service, creating standardized VPP enrollment across diverse geographies and energy program types. These enhancements will make it easier for distributed energy resource (DER) providers to enroll their energy assets in VPPs at scale.

First launched in 2022, Leap Connect streamlines the process for customers to authorize their utilities to share the meter data required to participate in VPPs, replacing traditionally time-consuming, multi-step processes into a single, simple online form. As a white-labeled service, Leap Connect can be directly embedded into partners’ apps and marketing campaigns under their own brands.

Embedding VPP sign-up directly into the device sale or setup process has been shown to yield significantly higher customer enrollments in grid services programs. Leap Connect enables partners to integrate VPP enrollment during the new device sales or installment process and use program incentives as a strategic differentiator.

In today’s fragmented energy market landscape, VPP enrollment processes and requirements vary widely by program. The latest Leap Connect updates introduce a unified, configurable service for connecting new DERs that is consistent across markets and built for scale, which will allow partners to more easily take advantage of new program offerings.

Key features include:

  • Standardized data flows that deliver a consistent enrollment experience for both partners and customers across all programs.

  • A flexible data structure to capture and translate the disparate customer and site or device details needed to enroll assets in different programs.

  • A service architecture that allows Leap to rapidly integrate and provide streamlined access to new programs via API.

“The updates to Leap Connect make it easy for our partners to provide a great customer experience while securely completing the authorizations required to activate millions of eligible DERs as grid resources,” said Susie Dirks, Chief Product Officer at Leap. “This framework is a critical step toward a single, standardized interface for VPP participation at scale.”

The U.S. Department of Energy’s VPP Liftoff Report identified simplifying VPP enrollment as one of the five key imperatives needed to unlock the potential of VPPs. With this latest update, Leap is helping to address that imperative, making it easier for every connected device to play a role in a cleaner, more resilient grid.
