Leap’s product and engineering teams have been working hard on new features and functionality to make it easier for our partners to enroll batteries, EV chargers, smart thermostats and other distributed energy resources (DERs) into revenue-generating grid services programs through the Leap platform.
“Easier to enroll” isn’t just a catch phrase – it’s key to everything we do at Leap, enabling leading technology providers to unlock new revenue from the DERs they manage. Leap’s partners participate in many different grid services programs across different regions, each with a unique set of enrollment rules and requirements. Navigating the steps required to get a DER successfully enrolled can be challenging.
Leap was one of the first providers to offer a software-only solution to address these challenges. Now, we’re adding new capabilities specifically targeting the meter enrollment process to help partners generate more revenue from their assets now and prepare to scale their operations as DER growth continues to surge.
The Winter 2024 Release includes new platform features and functionality designed to enable faster, easier and more efficient access to energy market revenue for Leap partners. We’ve specifically focused on three key areas:
Reducing friction for your customers
For a DER to generate grid services revenue through Leap, it first needs to be connected to the Leap platform. In California and New York, partners’ customers need to provide authorization to access their utility meter data in order to complete enrollment. Customers often have to navigate through multiple web pages and login credentials, leading to many to abandon the process before completing authorization.
The Winter ‘24 Release includes several enhancements to simplify and streamline the authorization process for customers; it also introduces new options for partners to add meters for programs that don’t require utility authorization. These improvements will give partners more flexibility over how they want to engage with their customers as well as increase the overall rate meters become eligible.
Increasing transparency into meter enrollment steps
Before customer meters can participate in grid events, they have to clear a series of third-party eligibility checks. Leap is making it easier for partners to identify and resolve customer eligibility issues and get them back on track for activation.
We’re releasing several new features that significantly improve the ability for partners to understand this part of the process and clearly identify when they need to take action: New filters and program-specific enrollment checklists will make it easy for partners to track enrollment steps, both for individual meters and their portfolio as a whole. And, a new Actions Dashboard identifies the specific actions needed to complete enrollment and consolidates them into a single view in the partner portal.

Enabling more automation for greater operational efficiency
The above improvements will provide new opportunities for partners to automate their enrollment flows and customer touchpoints. By providing additional details for each program and enrollment stage, partners can build enhancements to their own systems to help improve the ability to track the status of their portfolio and streamline their customer communications. Additionally, we are rolling out new API endpoints that will help partners add, enroll and manage meters at scale.
We will be releasing many new features in the coming weeks, which means that partners will be able to use them to enroll new meters ahead of the lucrative summer season.
